{"id":265,"date":"2016-05-06T12:54:31","date_gmt":"2016-05-06T02:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jimvangeet.com\/?p=265"},"modified":"2016-05-06T12:54:31","modified_gmt":"2016-05-06T02:54:31","slug":"soul-journey-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jimvangeet.com\/?p=265","title":{"rendered":"SOUL  JOURNEY EXHIBITION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a journey through Jim\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s soul<\/p>\n<p>26 April 2016 2:44 PM .<\/p>\n<p>Subject Gabriela Ruiz stands next to her portrait by Van Geet. 153395_01 Pictures: MONIQUE KUZEFF<br \/>\nPurchase this photo from Star Photos: 153395<br \/>\nView Gallery<\/p>\n<p>By MONIQUE KUZEFF<\/p>\n<p>RENOWNED for his portrait, figurative, masquerade and nude artwork, Myrtleford artist Jim Van Geet opened his exhibition, Soul Journey, at MAMA last Thursday, alongside two of his muses \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the well-known and charismatic barrister Charles Waterstreet and the beautiful Argentinian, Gabriela Ruiz.<br \/>\nThe exhibition, which encompasses 15 paintings, delves into the personalities of his muses, extracting the essence of each individual to put down on canvas.<br \/>\nHaving accomplished hundreds of paintings, Mr Van Geet has won numerous awards and is recurrently sought after for commissions.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153People fascinate me and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s my interaction, feeling, response and perception of them that is important to me and is conveyed through the paintings,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Mr Van Geet said.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re all so unique and have different stories so when I get glimpses of who they are they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re the parts I put down on canvas.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\nMr Van Geet said he enjoyed working with Mr Waterstreet, who he has previously painted in \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcThe Jury Whisperer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, spending numerous hours in his chambers observing his interaction.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153He (Waterstreet) is a very complex person and somewhat a flawed character you might say,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153There are so many sides to his personality that it was very difficult to pick out one.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\nMr Waterstreet can be observed in the portrait \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcCharles Billich in his World, 2012\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 where he is portrayed in the Library of his Chambers being doted over by two nude women.<br \/>\nWith humour, Mr Waterstreet said Mr Van Geet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s portrait of him is a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153lyrical piece of great talent\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that shows the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153sheer heart Jim puts into his art\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not just saying that because he painted me, but the way he goes about his painting and his talent and expertise is evident,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Mr Waterstreet said.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I chose to pose with these two beautiful women because they were set against each other with the red hair and the blonde hair.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I like a bit of yin and yang,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he joked.<br \/>\nMr Van Geet said he wanted viewers to deeply consider the stories when they look at the portraits and to question why they are being portrayed in those ways.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The outcomes of my paintings portray how I perceive the individuals and my own interaction with them.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I want the viewer to finish the picture for themselves and to ask questions about the figures in the portrait.<br \/>\nSoul Journey will be showcased at MAMA until 8 May with free entry.
